Bikes on Buses Program ♦ Ride your bike to the nearest bus stop. ♦ Stow your bike on the rack and board the bus. ♦ When you reach your stop, leave the bus, claim your bike and ride away.
What You Should Know ♦ Bike racks can hold two bikes, 16” or larger ♦ Only single-seat, two wheeled bikes are permitted. No motor, tandem or three wheeled bikes are allowed. ♦ Bicyclists pay the same fare as everyone else. There is no extra charge or permit required. ♦ Athens Transit is not responsible for personal injury, property damage or property loss arising from use of this equipment. Use at your own risk.
How to Load Your Bike ♦ Before loading your bicycle, remove water bottles, pumps or loose accessories. ♦ When the bus arrives, let the operator know you will be loading your bike. Do not step in front of the bus until it is safe to do so. ♦ For safety, be sure to stand only on the curbside of the bus when you load your bicycle. ♦ If the rack is folded up, simple pull it down. ♦ Lift your bike onto the rack, fitting the wheels into the available slot nearest the bus. ♦ Raise and release the support arm over the top of the bike’s front tire, not the fender. ♦ Board the bus and pay your fare. ♦ Sit as close to the front as possible. ♦ If the rack is full, you will need to wait for the next bus.
Unload Your Bike ♦ When approaching your stop, let the operator know you will unload your bike and then exit through the front door. ♦ Raise the support arm off the tire, move the arm down and lift your bike out of the rack. ♦ Remove your bike quickly and if empty, raise the rack to its upright and locked position. ♦ After removing your bike from the rack, return to the curb with your bike and wave to the driver that it is safe for him to proceed.
